New Blog Site aims to build an online community for Indians in Australia
A new blog site, www.ininaussie.com.au, has been established by former Australian Army officer, journalist and social justice activist Chip Henriss in reaction to violence waged against Indians in recent months.
Mr Henriss, who migrated to Australia in 1987 from the US, fell in love with Indian culture through food and the many close Indian friends he’s made throughout his life.
“I decided to build a web site that allowed Indians in Australia and their friends from other cultures to come together and discuss not only the recent violence but the good things we share as well.
“Everyone who’s lived in Australia knows that the vast majority of people want to get along and improve their lives.
“My friendship with Indians has brought me so many good things and it’s always a lot of fun sharing our cultures. I wanted to be able to do it on a massive scale,” Mr Henriss said.
At the moment the site has no traffic and only one story but it is hoped the site will grow into a thriving community with events and educational forums springing up around the country.
“If this site achieves anything I want it to bring people together. I want those Indian students, in particular, who are here by themselves to know that they aren’t alone and that they can make friends with people from various cultural backgrounds.
“As a migrant myself and a former soldier I want our country to be a place we can all be happy to live in,” he said.
Ininaussie, which stands for Indians in Australia, hopes to promote cultural gatherings, educational and migration forums and eventually a restaurant of the year competition.
